Herbert William Hartley lived at 6 Coronation Street, Murton with mother Alice Elliot Hartley, the widow of William Henderson Hartley.
He was a pupil at Durham Johnston School.
He enlisted as Private 28/532, 11th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers and died 5th August 1916 age 19.
