HORDEN

Burnham, I.H., Bdr., M.M., 1917
In Belgian Battery Corner Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 71554 Bombardier Isaac Henry Burnham, M.M., serving with the "D" Battery 311th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery who died 30/10/1917.

The following has been submitted by Peter Burnham.

Isaac's parents were John Henry and Isabella Burnham. John Henry was born in Sunderland on the 22nd of February, 1865 and died on the 17th of October 1936.

Isaac was born circa 1891, in Sunderland. However by the time of his marriage to Jane Lang on the 26th of December 1914 at Horden, Easington, he was living at 20 South Terrace, Horden. A few days later, on the 16th of January 1915, Isaac enlisted in the army.

Isaac and his wife Jane had no children before his death in 1917.

Isaac's Military Medal was gazetted on the 9th of July 1917 and the bar to the Military Medal was gazetted on the 16th of August 1917. He was killed in action on the 30th of October 1917 (during the 3rd Battle of Ypres, better known as Passchendaele).

Isaac Henry Burnham is remembered at Horden on H130.05 and H130.08
