Until we meet again

Sergeant Nelson was serving with 1660 HCU. He was a crew member of Stirling III EF232 –J which took off from Swinderby on a night training exercise. The aircraft crashed soon after take-off. All but three were killed in the crash, but the remaining three died the following day.

No 1660 Heavy Conversion Unit Codes TV and YW. Based at Swinderbury and equipped with Lancasters and Manchester's. Satellite airfield Skellingthorpe. Manchester's phased out and replaced with B Mk V Halifaxes to a UE of 32+0 in September 1943, Replaced with Stirlings 1.1.44.
