In Klagenfurt War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1522073 Sergeant John Davison, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 07/07/1944.

1522073 Sergeant DAVISON John R. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve37 Squadron

The son of Joseph and Mary Alice Davison of Stockton-on-Tees. He died on the 7th July 1944 aged 21. He is buried in Klagenfurt War Cemetery, Austria, Grave Reference Coll.8.C.11-15.

37 Squadron was a bomber squadron which was based in the Middle East from 1940 supporting allied units in northern Europe. The exact records in respect of this casualty are not known apart from the fact that he could well have been shot down or died as a prisoner of war.

Klagenfurt War Cemetery

Klagenfurt is the only Commonwealth War Cemetery in Austria. It was begun in June 1945 by the British occupying forces, who moved graves into it from all over the country. It now contains 589 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War.
