Avery, J.V., Flt.Sgt., 1944
In Norton St.Mary Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1041908 Flight Sergeant (Pilot) James Victor Avery, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 02/03/1944.

Ft. Sgt. Avery was serving with 15. O.T.U. He was a crew member of Wellington X LN614 which took off from Harwell on a night bombing exercise. It crashed on returning to land, it is thought from a catastrophic electrical failure. 5 crew members died and one was injured.
