Middlemiss, J., Sgt., 1901
The Durham Chronicle 08/11/1901 reports the following:

"An Usworth man's death.

A telegram from the War office has been received announcing that Sergt. John Middlemiss, who left for the front in March of this year, was killed on October 24th. He was the eldest son of the late John Middlemiss, of Follingsby Cottages, near Usworth, and was a signalman on the N.E.R. at Chathill. He was promoted corporal in April, and made a full sergeant on September 28th. He was well-known and highly respected in the district. The windowed mother now resides at No.6 Liddle Terrace, Bensham, Gateshead. He was in the 101st Company Imperial Yeomanry."

He is remembered in Gateshead on G39.017
