Derek Haynes has provided the following:

John’s birth was registered in the December Q 1912 in Sunderland, the eldest child of Herbert and Isabella Dunn (nee Chapman) who were married in the June Q 1910. Two years after John’s birth the birth of his sister Rose H. was registered also in Sunderland in the December Q 1914.At the time of the 1911 census Isabella was residing at 40 South Durham Street, Sunderland with her parents John and Elizabeth Chapman, husband Herbert was not with her.

The next information we have of the family is in the December Quarter of 1935 in Sunderland when John married Mary Spargo and they had one son John Chapman Dunn born June Quarter 1936 whose birth was registered in Sunderland.

It is not known when John enlisted into the Army, but the CWGC details give the information that he served in the 2nd Battalion D.L.I., his regimental number being 4464014. John died in Walton Hospital, 107 Rice Lane; Liverpool aged 32 years on the 6th September 1945. I have no details of what caused his death, his body was returned home and he was laid to rest on the 11th September 1945 in Section 2 Grave no. 581 of Southwick Cemetery.

John Chapman Dunn is remembered in the D.L.I. Book of Remembrance page 69.
