In Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, is the Commonwealth War Grave of 23/1201 Private Anthony Walton, serving with the Northumberland Fusiliers who died 24/11/1916.

Alma Forster has provided the following:

My Great Uncle was killed in the First World War.

My Uncle, also named Anthony visited the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension Nord a number of years ago with his son where Anthony is buried. My Uncle and my Mother, my Mother is the elder of the two, are both still living but they do not know anything other than Anthony died in the Great War and that a sniper had shot him. The location and the place where Anthony was shot are unknown.

I have my Great Grandparent's names, John and Mary Jane Walton. They lived at 39 Frances Street, New Silksworth, Sunderland. Their children, Anthony, Joseph(my Grandfather), Jane, Elizabeth and Isabella.

My Grandfather was also in the First World War, he was with the Durham Light Infantry. Joseph actually saw his brother, Anthony, the day before his death in France.

My Mother has said the war was never discussed when she was young as Anthony had died and never returned home.

Anthony Walton is remembered at Silksworth on S111.01
