Gunner George Bell

127502 Gunner George Bell, died of wounds on the 21st September 1917.

Son of John George and Julia Bell, of 5, Ocean Road, Grangetown, Sunderland. He was in the Royal Field Artillery, 'D' Battery, 189th Brigade.

He was a goods porter at Ryhope and was employed by the N.E.R.

He joined the N.E.R. in May 1912 as a platform porter at Annfield Plain, then afterwards served as a sheetman at Gateshead, eventually became a freight shunter at Gateshead and Sunderland.

His portrait shows an incorrect initial. A 'C' instead of a 'G'.
