Albert was the fourth son of Charles Hindmarsh, Fireman, Monkwearmouth Colliery and his wife, Mary (28 Fulwell Road, Sunderland, daughter of James Archbald. Albert was born in Southwick-on-Wear, on the 23rd October 1893.
He was educated at Southwick Board School and was employed as a Miner at Monkwearmouth.
He enlisted 7th August 1914 and went to France on the 10th August 1914.
Albert was killed in action at Ypres on the 29th October 1914. He was unmarried. His four brothers; Robert (5454 Private 3rd Durham Light Infantry), William (Private 14th Durham Light Infantry) : John (690 Driver R.G.A.): and Arthur (15488 Private 14th Durham Light Infantry - wounded) are all on active service: and his brother-in-law, Thomas Elliott, (14373 10th Yorks) was killed in action.
