Pte R. Deans 2nd DLI Battalion

Private R. Deans 2nd DLI was reported to have died on the 25th December 1915, from wounds received in France.

Prior to that he was employed at Wearmouth Dock, Sunderland for over three years as a casual goods porter and dock gateman.
He was a reservist and was called to the colours on August the 4th 1914, being sent to France almost immediately. After passing through two or three actions, he was severely wounded in the head at Ypres on March 4th 1915. He was operated upon several times at the Fulham Hospital, and on August 5th 1915, was discharged from the Army as medically unfit for further service.

He appeared to be progressing satisfactorily until the latter part of November, but then had to be sent to the Monkwearmouth hospital, at which place he died. He was 32 years of age.
