In Sacriston St. Bede's Churchyard is a family headstone for Corrigan which reads:-

Wilfrid Corrigan
Died 3rd Dec. 1950 aged 24 years

Lost over Germany 20th Aug. 1944
aged 30 years

Alice & Denis Corrigan
On whose souls Sweet Jesus have mercy
Sgt. Corrigan was serving with 626 Sqdn. He was a crew member (mid upper gunner) of Lancaster I LM140 UN-02 which took off from Wickenby on a mission to Russelsheim. All died except one who was taken prisoner. This was on a night mission when 30 aircraft were lost with an average crew of 7 on each.

Lancaster LM140 UM-O2 had departed Wickenby at 2029 for Ops Russelheim. It was possibly intercepted at 4000M, E of Bingen by a Night-Fighter captained by Uffz Rudnik (IX/NJG3) and shot down at 0108 for his 2nd Abschuss
