Sgt. Spedding was serving with 50 Squadron. He was a crew member of Lancaster I W4824 VN-Z which took off from Skellingthorpe on a mission to Bois de Cassan to raid a storage depot for flying bombs. The aircraft crashed killing 5, but two others evaded capture.
