Scarth, R.H., Tpr., 1939
In Pelton Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 556440 Trooper Robert Hill Scarth, serving with the Northumberland Hussars who died 04/10/1939.

Chester-le-Street Chronicle 13/10/1939 reports:

Perkinsville Soldier's Fatal Accident.

Members of the Boys' Life Brigade and a large number of Air Raid wardens of Ouston and Pelton district headed the cortege at the funeral of Mr. Robert Hill Scarth, son of Mrs. and the late Mr. W. Scarth, of Mole Terrace, Perkinsville, who died in Scarborough Infirmary following injuries received by falling from a horse while serving in the Army.

Air raid wardens also acted as underbearers and the burial took place in Pelton Cemetery.

William Kirby has submitted the following:-

Robert was the son of William and Margaret Scarth nee Bridges in 1920.

His father died in 1929 aged 67 years. Margaret was living by herself in 1939 at 17, Mole Terrace, Perkinsville.

Robert is buried with his father at Pelton. His mother Margaret died in 1974 aged 91 years. She is buried with her son Albert born 1921 who died in 1989 aged 67 years.

Robert Hill Scarth is remembered at Pelton on P26.04 and P26.10
