Sanderson, W., Spr., 1916
In Pelton Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 56397 Sapper William Sanderson, serving with the 84th Tunnelling Company (Newark) Royal Engineers who died 28/08/1916.

William Kirby has submitted the following:-

William Sanderson was born at Felling about 1873. He was the son of Andrew and Ann Sanderson.

William enlisted at Jarrow and joined the Royal Engineers and went to France 30th October 1915.

He died at Liverpool Royal Infirmary 28th August 1916.

William's sister Susan married to John Heads lived in 1901 and 1911 at 6 Station Houses Pelton Fell and this may explain why he is buried at Pelton.

Recipient of the 1915 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

He is not remembered on any local memorial.
