In Port Said Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1543369 Aircraftman 2nd Class Thomas Holmes serving with the 94 Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 14/09/1942.

Always remembered by his father J.W. Holmes of Fence Houses Co. Durham.

Son of John Wilie Holmes and of Elsie Mildred Holmes (nee Smith), of Fence Houses, Co. Durham.

In Christ Churchyard is a family headstone which reads:

In loving memory of my dear wife
Elsie Mildred Holmes
who died Feb. 16th 1942 aged 40 years
Also A/C2 Thomas Holmes R.A.F.
son of the above
killed in Egypt 14th Sept. 1942 aged 20 years
Also John W. Holmes
who died 5th April 1960 aged 61 years

Thomas Holmes is remembered at Lumley 6th Pit Woodstone Village on W134.02 and at Great Lumley on G50.01
