Lowery, J., Sgt., 1944
In Reichswald Forest Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1590245 Sergeant John Lowery, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 23/05/1944.

Sgt. Lowery was serving with 207 Sqdn. He was a crew member of Lancaster I LL776 EM-S which took off from Spilsby on a mission to Braunschweig. The aircraft was damaged by a night fighter and crashed in Germany. Two crew members were killed, 5 were made pows and one evaded capture.This was on a night when 38 aircraft were lost.

Lancaster LL776 EM-S had departed Spilsby at 2227 for Ops Braunschweig. It was probably intercepted at 5400M N of Meppen by a Night-Fighter captained by Uffz Heinz Krause (III/NJG3) and shot down at 0029 for his 5th Abschuss.
