Burridge, G.E. Pte., and W., Pte., 1914-18
Lynne Irving has submitted the following:

My grandfather was Private 301067 George Edward (Ned) Burridge, 8th Durham Light Infantry. He enlisted 20th July 1915 age 20 years.

He was taken prisoner from the battle fields of Passchendaele and spent some time working down Germany’s mines. He was then moved to farm work for health reasons. He was discharged 27th December 1918.

His brother, Private William Burridge, enlisted 10th December 1915 age 26 years 9 months. He was discharged 25th June 1919.

Their father was Mark Burridge, born in Devon. Their mother was Elizabeth Wilkinson, born in West Pelton. They lived at 6 Eden Place, Beamish.

The brothers are possibly remembered on B162.01, where “E. Burridge” is probably George Edward, who was known as Ned, and who therefore was assumed to be “Edward”.
