In Durnback War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1522515 Sergeant Joseph William Higdon, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 27/04/1944.

Sgt. Higdon was serving with 57 Squadron. He was a crew member of Lancaster I ME679 DX-K which took off from East Kirkby on a mission to Schweinfurt. The aircraft collided with another near Oberkirchen. Seven crew were killed and one taken prisoner of war.
