Menin Gate Memorial

On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial is the name of 2546 Private Thomas Ross, 1/8th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 26/04/1915.

Thomas Ross was born 5th August 1895 at Blythe Terrace, Birtley Co Durham the son of Peter and Emma (nee Blythe) Ross.

In the 1911 Census Thomas is living with his widowed father (mother Emma died in 1908) and siblings Elizabeth, Annie, Peter and Monica. Also in the household is Peter Ross' uncle, Mathew Carr.

Thomas was employed as a labourer at the brickworks, his father Peter is a coal hewer. They resided at 91, Blythe Terrace.

Thomas enlisted in the 1/8th Battalion Durham Light Infantry and was killed on the 26th April 1915, age 19.
