AC2 Winter was serving with No. 72 Air School at Bloemspruit, South Africa. The unit’s Operational Record Book has the following entry for March 21st 1942:
No flying on account of Aerodrome being U/S. 1139633 AC2 Winter, J. died through accident with tractor.

He is remembered in Birtley on B127.01 and B127.07
