Carr, M.R., Capt., 1914
In Vendresse British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Captain Martin Raymond Carr, serving with the Worcestershire Regiment who died 18/09/1914.

Captain 2nd Battalion (36th Foot) The Worcestershire Regiment; born 8 July, 1877; gazetted 2nd Lieutenant Worcestershire Regiment, from the Militia, 4 January 1899; was promoted Lieutenant 13 February 1900, and Captain 21 December 1901; served in the South African War 1899-1902, being employed with the Mounted Infantry (wounded); took part in the operations in Orange River Colony 30 November 1900, to January 1901, March to August 1901, and October 1901 to April, 1902, and those in Cape Colony January to March, 1901, August to October 1901, and April to 31 May, 1902 (Queen's Medal with four clasps and King's Medal with two clasps); served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders, and was killed in action at the Battle of the Aisne 18 September 1914. He married Gwen, 2nd daughter of T. Putnam, of Greylands, Darlington.
