Samuel Newman, Northumberland Fusiliers, of 3 Wood Row, Team Colliery, has been awarded the Military Medal. Private Newman volunteered for service at the beginning of the war. prior to which he was engaged as a miner at Heworth Colliery.
His name is also included in a list of recipients in the 20/07/1917 edition.
