In Ryton (Holy Cross) Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave with a private headstone of Lieutenant Henry Robertson Westwick, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 01/03/1947.

Son of Joseph Fothergill Westwick and Edith Westwick; husband of Doris Eleanor Westwick, of Dublin, Irish Republic.

The headstone reads:-

Died March 1st 1947
Aged 46 years
Edith Margaret Westwick
Died March 18th 1947
Aged 67 years

The Shields Daily Gazette 04/03/1947 reports:-

Death Of Mr H. R. Westwick

The death has occurred at Ryton of Mr H. R. Westwick, aged 46, a former well-known Percy Park R.F.C. player. A wing-threequarter, Mr Westwick was a member of some of the strong Percy Park sides after the 1914-18 war. He was also associated with Rockcliff and Westoe R.F.C.s and was a keen tennis enthusiast. Prominent in Newcastle and Cardiff shipping circles, Mr Westwick was a director of Messrs. F. L. Dawson, shipowners, of Newcastle. He leaves a widow and an only son. The funeral will be at Ryton Church tomorrow.
