Brenda McMahon has submitted the following:-

Alan was the son of Archibald Young Richardson and his wife, Margaret (nee McKenzie). His parents married at Gateshead in 1910.

The 1911 census shows the young couple living in 2 roomed accommodation at 51 Robson Street Low Fell. They had no children at that time. Archibald worked as a coal miner/hewer. Alan was born 14th July 1914, his brother George William was born 23rd February 1919.

Archibald Young Richardson died in 1937. In 1939 Margaret with Alan and George William were living at 5 Prospect Terrace Kibblesworth. Both brothers were colliery surface workers.

Alan enlisted into the 602 (City of Glasgow) Squadron Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve but sadly died 16 May 1942 and was buried at Lamesley. No further details are available at this time.

George William known as Willie was killed in action at Sicily 22nd July 1943 aged 24 years.

Alan and George William Richardson are remembered at Kibblesworth on K23.02
