In St.Mary's Churchyard is the Commonwealth War Grave of R.I. Sinton, serving with 25th Durham (East Boldon) Battalion Home Guard, died 30/11/1940 age 39.

Diane Mckeown has offered the following:
I am Robert Sinton's great grand-daughter and have some additional information for you.

His full name was Robert Ingo Sinton. He was born 10th December 1901 to George and Margaret (nee Wooldridge) Sinton in Newcastle Upon Tyne. He was the eldest of 4 children, the others were John George, Doris and Frederick James.

He lived in Westgate in Newcastle before moving to Felling, Gateshead. He married Alice Sims in 1925 and their first son, Thomas Edwin, was born on 10 September 1925. He was followed by Margaret (03 March 1927), Joyce (June 1930) and Robert (September 1935).

They were living at 16 White's Street, Felling when he died of a broken neck after an accidental fall when vaulting over a gymnasium horse whilst training for the Home Guard.

Jean Sinton tells us that, following the death of their mother, the children were taken into care. She herself married Thomas Edwin Sinton, now deceased. Their son is named Robert Ingo Sinton and her grandson, also deceased, was named Joseph Thomas Sinton.
