William Robert Pearson was born in Skelbrook, near Doncaster on the 10th June 1895, the eldest son of (the late) Robert Pearson, and his wife Rosina (who remarried Edward Clark, of Tees Street, Horden, late of Ryton, Alnwick and Gateshead) daughter of Charles Wyatt.
William was educated at the Press Street Schools in Gateshead and was a miner at Crawcrook Colliery.
He volunteered for service after the outbreak of war in August 1914. Enlisted into the Durham Light Infantry and served with the British Expeditionary Force in France from the 18th April 1915. He was killed in action on the 9th August 1915.
He was originally buried in the Distillery Grounds, Chapelle d' Armentieres.
