In Tilloy British Cemetery, Tilloy-sur-Mofflaines is the Commonwealth War Grave of 12148 Company Sergeant Major Dilworth Parkinson, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 09/04/1917.

In Gateshead East Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Loving memory of
John Scott Armstrong
who died at Gateshead
Feb. 5th 1898, aged 60 years.
Also Mary Jane Rowe
eldest daughter of the above
who died Nov. 13th 1884
Sgt.Maj. D. Parkinson, D.L.I.
killed in action
April 9th 1917 aged 36
dearly beloved husband of
Mary Parkinson,
granddaughter of the above.

Soldiers Died in the Great War states that he was born in Blackburn, enlisted in Newcastle and resided in Gateshead. It also gives his rank as W.O Class 2.

He is remembered in Gateshead on G39.004 page 59 and in the D.L.I. Book of Remembrance page 74
