28th June 1918 age 32

Brenda McMahon submitted the following;-

Peter was the son of John and Annie (nee Kelly) Docherty. He was born in Bishop Auckland in 1883.His father was a coal miner whilst his mother worked as a dressmaker. In 1891 the family were living with Annie’s father at 5 Grainger Street.

By 1901 Annie is showing as a widow. At that time the family including 3 sisters and 2 boarders were living at 255 Clayton Street, Bishop Auckland.

Peter enlisted into the Army at Wallsend (date unknown) and by 1915 was fighting in the Balkans.

He died at Tynemouth 28 June 1918 aged about 32 years.

His wife added the following words to his headstone:-Gone but not forgotten Ever remembered By his loving wife Helen.
