In Ferme-Olivier Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 17623 Private Thomas John Clark, serving with the Grenadier Guards who died 22/06/1916.

In Gateshead East Cemetery is a family headstone which reads:

Thomas John Clark was the son of William (railway carriage inspector) and his wife Margaret. He was born at Gateshead in 1886.

His siblings were Elizabeth (a milliner), Ursula (certificated school teacher, and William (a millwright). Thomas became an analytical chemist.

He enlisted in Darlington and served with 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards (service no 17623).

Thomas died of wounds in June 1916 and is buried at Ferme-Olivier Cemetery in Belgium.

Thomas John Clark is remembered at Gateshead on G39.004 and G39.051
