Moscrop, T., awarded O.B.E., 1919
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle 19/04/1919 reports the following:

"Lord Durham presents O.B.E. Medals.

The Earl of Durham, K.G., G.C.V.O., Lord Lieutenant of the county of Durham, attended by the Clerk to the Lieutenancy, (Mr. J.G. Wilson) has presented, on behalf of the King, the following medals of the Order of the British Empire:

The list includes:
Gertrude Randall (now Mrs. Simpson), Wilson Street, West Hartlepool, for great courage displayed and devotion to duty during a bombardment from the sea;
Mrs. Mary Sinclair, of 5c Parliament Street, Stockton, for courageous conduct and high example;
Thomas Spence, of 22 Laburnum Avenue, Wallsend, for great devotion to duty in spite of his age, 81 years, and for his high example;
Thomas Moscrop, Harrow Street, Gateshead, for courage and promptitude in extinguishing a serious fire, thereby preventing a disastrous explosion in a shell firing factory.
