Robson, J., Sgt., 1943

Heslop’s Local Advertiser 14/12/1945

In Durnbach War Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 1079549 Sergeant Joseph Robson, serving with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve who died 18/11/1943.

Heslop’s Local Advertiser 14/12/1945 and 13/12/1947 both carry a notice which reads:

“Robson - 19, Chilside Road, Felling, Joseph (W.Op./A.G., R.A.F.V.R.) , killed on air operations over Germany Nov. 19th, 1943 , aged 26.”

Sgt. Robson was serving with 218 Squadron. He was a crew member of Stirling III EE884 RA-B which took off from Downham Market on a mission to Mannheim. The aircraft crashed east of the Rhine, killing all but one of the crew except for one man who travelled 100 km before being captured.
