In Felling (Heworth) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 14892808 Private Thomas E. Riley, serving with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry who died 03/05/1945.

Heslop’s Local Advertiser 18/05/1946 carries a notice which reads:

“RIDLEY - Felling, Tom, K.O.Y.L.I., aged 18, accidentally killed May 3rd 1945”.

Note the mis-spelling of the name.

Further editions dated 17/05/1947 and 15/05/1948 read the same but with the surname as “Riley”.
