Wilde, R., A/Smn., 1915
On the Helles Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/1869 Able Seaman Robert Wilde, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 06/05/1915.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

Robert Wilde was born on 25th May 1895 in South Shields, the third of four children of Robert and Sarah Wilde. In 1911 the family were living with his stepfather Michael Hennessey, a coal hewer at 42 Eighton Terrace, Springwell Road, Wrekenton.

Robert served in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve with the Anson Battalion Royal Naval Division, a shore based infantry unit. His service number was Tyneside. Z./1869, and his rank was Able Seaman. He was killed at Gallipoli on 6th May 1915. His final resting place is unknown but he is remembered on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli, Canakkale, Turkey.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02
