In Brandhoek New Military Cemetery No.3 is the Commonwealth War Grave of 18685 Private Robert Wardle, serving with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers who died 18/08/1917.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

Robert Wardle was born in Windy Nook in about 1881, the son of William and Margaret Wardle. William was employed as a coal miner. In 1911 Robert lived on Galloping Green Road with his wife, Isabella and their four year old daughter Mary. He was employed on a colliery wagon way.

He served as a Private with 11th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, regimental number 18685. He died of his wounds on the Western Front on 18th August 1917. He is also remembered on Ireland’s Memorial Records 1914-1918.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02
