Waggott, J.G., A/Smn., 1918
On the Arras Memorial is the name of Tyneside Z/5074 Able Seaman John George Waggott, serving with the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve who died 21/03/1918.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

John was born on 31st May 1894 in Eighton Banks. In 1911 and at the time of his death the family lived at 20 Eighton Terrace. In 1911 John aged 15 was a pony driver in a mine and his father Thomas was a hewer. As well as his parents John lived with three older sibling and two younger brothers.

John George Waggott was Number Z/5074 in the Tyneside Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. He was in Drake Battalion. He enlisted on 6th June 1915 and was made an Able Seaman on 6th September that year. His draft for the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force came on 5th October. His service took him to various theatres of war and he was reported wounded on 21st March 1918 then this was confirmed as death in France as a result of enemy action.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02
