EIGHTON BANKS

Lindsay, D.P., Capt., 1918
In Dar es Salaam (Upanga Road) Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of Captain David Paton Lindsay, serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps who died 02/12/1918.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

David was born in about 1883 in Chelsea, London. He trained as a Doctor attending Edinburgh University 1907-12; MB, ChB 1912. He married Janet (Jessie) Dickie Smith Geddes in 1915.

He served in the Royal Army Medical Corps and was posted to East Africa in June 1917, possibly to the No. 3 East African Stationary Hospital. He was promoted to Temporary Lieutenant shortly after. He died on 2nd December 1918, by which time he had been promoted to Captain. His military records show his address as Springbank, Uphall, West Lothian. However, shortly after his death his widow, Jessie, was living at Walmer Terrace, Eighton Banks. He is buried in plot: VI. A. 1. at the Upanga Road Cemetery in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

He would probably be entitled to the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

He is remembered on the War Memorial at St Nicholas Church, Uphall, West Lothian.
