Smith, G., Pte., 1917
In Godewaersvelde British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 21136 Private George Smith, serving with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment who died 13/10/1917.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

George Smith was born in about 1882, the son of William and Mary Smith, of Pasture Field, Eighton Banks. His father was employed as a freestone quarryman and George followed him into this occupation. In the 1911 census he was living at Favels Houses, Eighton Banks with his wife, Polly, and their three year old son John Thomas.

He served firstly as a Private with the Durham Light Infantry, regimental number 25393, but later transferred to 16th Battalion, Royal Warwickshire Regiment, regimental number 21136. He died of his wounds on the Western Front on 13th October 1917.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02
