Adam Ridley was born in Stanley, County Durham in about 1897, the son of Andrew and Mary Ridley. His father was employed as a navvy, but by 1911 the family had moved to Potts Houses, Eighton Banks, and his father was employed as a Colliery stone man.
He enlisted in Newcastle giving his address as Wrekenton and served as a Private with the Northumberland Fusiliers, regimental number 34208, with whom he is remembered on the memorial at St Thomas’ Church. However he later transferred to 2nd Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, regimental number 41186. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 16th August 1917. He is also remembered in Ireland’s Memorial Records 1914-1918.
