Proudlock, G., Pte., 1918

On the Pozieres Memorial is the name of 302169 Private George Proudlock, serving with the Durham Light Infantry who died 26/03/1918.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

George Proudlock lived in Wrekenton in about 1894, the second of four children of John and Dinah Proudlock. In 1911 the family lived at 10 Rock Cottages, Wrekenton. George was employed as a putter in a coal mine while his father and older brother, Frederick were both coal hewers.

George served as a Private with 1st/8th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, regimental number 302169. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 26th March 1918.

The attached photo has been sent in by Mark Dodd, great-nephew of George Proudlock.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02 and in the D.L.I. Book of Remembrance page 61
