John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

William Moore was born in about 1882, the son of Ralph and Isabella Moore, of Pasture Fields, Eighton Banks. His father was employed as a general labourer and on leaving school William gained employment as a grindstone turner.

In the 1911 census he was employed as a coal miner. He lived at 2 Sandy Lane, Eighton Banks, with his wife Jane Ann Moore. They had four children born between 1906 and 1915. His parents later lived in Jubilee Avenue.

He joined the Royal Army Medical Corps on a short service attestation in 1915. He served with the 42nd East Lancs. Field Ambulance with the service number 22983. He was discharged as medically unfit on 9th June 1916 and died on 20th November later that year.

William Kirby has submitted forms which show that his first theatre of war was in the Balkans.

He was 5 feet 6 inches tall, with fresh complexion. He had blue eyes and brown hair. His chest measurement was 35 inches when expanded. He was described as being "Steady and Well conducted. Trained in first aid and ambulance duties".

He was considered as medically unfit because of "Tubercle in lung". Originated Oct. 1915 at Gallipoli - Sputum contains Tubercle Bacilli. - Active Service - strain and exposure to infection - not permanent - duration six months - Totally prevents at present."

He was aged 33 years and ten months when he died.

He was entitled to the British War Medal, the Victory Medal and the 1915 Star.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01, E50.02 and E50.05
