On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of 18657 Private William Hunter, serving with the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers who died 01/07/1916.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

William Dunn Bolam Hunter was born in Wrekenton, in the autumn of 1895. In 1911 he was employed as a driver in a coal mine and living with his widowed uncle, Matthew Carruthers, a coal miner, his cousin Mary Farrell and her husband Michael. The family lived at 153 High Street, Wrekenton.

He served as a Private with 11th Battalion, Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers, regimental number 18657. He was killed in action on the Western Front, 1st July 1916.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02
