Anderson, L., Pte., 1917

Tyne Cot Memorial

Tyne Cot Memorial: Pauline Priano

On the Tyne Cot Memorial is the name of 43643 Private Lindsay Anderson, serving with the King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry who died 04/10/1917.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

Lindsay Anderson was born in Monkwearmouth in 1897, the eldest of four children of John Willis and Margaret Ann Anderson. He was christened on 16th May 1897, although the record of this mistakenly has him as a girl, presumably on account of his name. His father was employed as a manual engineer (turner). By 1911 he had been promoted to a foreman engineer in a colliery and the family had moved to 1 Thomas Street, Eighton Banks.

He originally served with the Royal Engineers, regimental number 188169 and it is with this regiment that he is remembered on the church memorial. However at the time he was killed in action on the Western Front on 4th October 1917, he was serving as a Private with 10th Battalion, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry, regimental number 43643.

He is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02
