In Haverskerque British Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 5526, 7658, 250581 Private Robert Scott, serving with the 1/5th Battalion Durham Light Infantry who died 09/04/1918.

The following has been submitted by John Taylor:

Robert was born in 1883, the son of Robert and Harriett Scott, of Robsons Buildings, Eighton Banks. His father and one of his two older brothers were employed as colliery safety lamp inspectors. His other brother was also a colliery worker being employed as a fireman on a stationary winding engine. However Robert gained employment with the Co-op as a grocer’s assistant. In 1911 his two brothers were now working as coal hewers while his father was still working as a colliery lamp repairer at the age of 71. Robert also had a younger sister and brother.

Robert served as a Private with 1st/5th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, regimental number 250581. He died of his wounds on 9th April 1918. He is buried in the Haverskerque British Cemetery in France.

Robert Scott is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02 and at Durham in the DLI Book of Remembrance page 75.
