Barron, A., Pte., 1917
On Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial is the name of 59348 Private Alexander Barron, serving with the Welsh Regiment who died 31/07/1917.

John Taylor has submitted the following:

Alexander was born in Birtley about 1898, the son of Henry and Hannah Barron, with three sisters and two brothers according to the 1901 census. His father was employed as a coal miner and the family lived at Coach Road, Cross Row, Eighton Banks. On the 1911 census he is mistakenly named as Alexandria. He had two more sisters and his father was now employed as a colliery stoneman. The family had also moved to Thomas Street, probably number 25, as this was his address when he enlisted in Newcastle in 1917, having previously been employed as a miner.

He served as a Private with 14th Battalion, the Welsh Regiment, regimental number 59348. He was killed in action at Ypres, Belgium, on 31st July 1917.
