Aspinall, R., Pte., 1917
On the Thiepval Memorial is the name of PO/350(S) Private Richard Aspinall, serving with the Royal Marine Light Infantry who died 17/02/1917.

John Taylor and Ann Norman have submitted the following:

Richard was born in West Cornforth, County Durham, on 1st April 1895, the third of four children of John and Jane Aspinall. In 1911, the family lived at 12 Boundary Houses, Wrekenton and Richard was employed as a pony driver in a colliery, while his father was a hewer. His military records later show his address as 28 Eighton Terrace, Springwell.

Richard served as a Private with the Royal Marine Cyclist Company, later transferring to 2nd Battalion, Royal Marine Light Infantry. His number was Po/350 (S). He was killed on the Western Front on 17th February 1917.

Richard Aspinall is remembered in Eighton Banks on E50.01 and E50.02 and in Gateshead on G39.123
