French, W.T.E., Pte., 1916

In Becourt Military Cemetery, Becordel-Becourt is the Commonwealth War Grave of 18/735 Private William Thomas Elllis French, serving with 12th Platoon, 'C' Company, 18th (Service) Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers who died 24/04/1916.

William Thomas Elllis French was born at Cardiff on the 4th February 1896, the son of Edward French, a carpenter, and his wife Mary Ann French. They resided at 199 Saltwell Road, Bensham, Gateshead.

He was educated at the County Council School at Gateshead.

He enlisted with the 18th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers.William was killed in action on the 23rd April 1916 at Albert. He was unmarried.

He is remembered in Bensham in B134.08 and at Newcastle in NUT075 page 136
