Sgt. Walton was killed when Short Stirling I N6091 MG-K of 7 Squadron was lost on a mission to Berlin. The Stirling was shot down by flak and crashed some 9 miles south-west of Rotterdam, with the loss of all seven crew members.

Stirling N6091 MG-K had departed Oakington at 1742 for Ops Berlin. It was engaged by Flakgruppe Vlaardingen, hit and shot down. The aircraft crashed in flames between Hekelingen and Spijkenisse at 0050
