In Mendinghem Military Cemetery is the Commonwealth War Grave of 30996 Private Thomas William Kidd serving with the Yorkshire Regiment who died 08/09/1917.

Pam and Ken Linge have submitted the following:-

Thomas William was born in Willington, the son of James and Elizabeth Kidd (nee Tate) of 2 Taylor's Yard, Chapel Street, Willington. James was a colliery labourer. They had at least eight children: Emily (b. 1877), John Joseph (b. 1879), Thomas William (b. 1881), Arthur (b. 1884), Robert (b. 1886), Jane Matthews (b. 1890), Lily (b. 1896), Gertrude (b. 1898).

Thomas William married Sarah Ann Thompson in 1901. In 1911 the couple lived at 9 Clarence Terrace, Willington. Thomas was a Sanitary Sink Moulder. There were no children from the marriage.

Thomas William enlisted at Bishop Auckland, Co. Durham and joined the Yorkshire Regiment. He was later transferred to the Labour Corps as 12843 Private.

He died of wounds on 8th September 1917, aged 36.

Recipient of the Victory Medal and British War Medal.
