Son of Mrs. Gardner (formerly Hewitson), of Sunniside, Tow Law, and Mr. Gardner (stepfather); husband of Wilhelmina Hodgson (formerly Hewitson), of 9, Railway St., Tow Law. A miner.

He is remembered at Tow Law on T57.01

He is also remembered in The DLI Book of Remembrance page 185 as J.H. Hewitson
